Privacy policy
Last updated 5 October 2026
Bet Check is run by Synap AI (“we”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with and how you can see, correct or delete it. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash; we can't read them.
- Confirmations: when you confirmed you are 18 or over and accepted our terms.
- Sign-in and security records: when you sign in, your session, and the IP address used, so we can keep accounts secure and investigate misuse.
- Your mobile number, if you add one for tip texts, with when you confirmed it and agreed to receive texts, and when you opted out.
- Messages we send you: a record of each tip email and text (when it was sent and whether it was delivered), and whether you've turned tip emails off.
- How you use the site, through Google Analytics (see below).
The racing information on the site (races, horses, form and prices) is not personal information about you. We don't collect your betting accounts or bets, and we never ask for them.
Why we use it
- To run your account and show you the picks and tips.
- To send the tip emails and texts you've chosen, and account emails such as invitations and password resets.
- To keep the site and your account secure.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't give it to anyone for their own marketing.
Emails and texts
Tip emails are sent only to members, and every one has an unsubscribe link. You can also turn them off on the Settings page. Tip texts are sent only if you add a mobile number and agree to receive them; reply STOP to any text to opt out. Account emails (invitations, password resets) are sent whatever your settings, because the account needs them.
Google Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics, a service of Google LLC, to see which pages are visited, for how long, and from what kind of device and general location. It uses cookies and similar technology in your browser, and Google may process this information outside Australia, including in the United States. We don't send Google your name, email address or mobile number, and pages that carry one-time sign-in links are reported without those links. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Bet Check also sets one essential cookie to keep you signed in. The site can't work without it, and it isn't used for tracking.
Who handles your information for us
We use these service providers, who may handle your personal information only to provide their service to us:
- Google Cloud hosts the site and the database, in its Melbourne (Australia) region.
- Mailgun (Sinch) sends our emails. It processes your email address and the email's content in the United States.
- Twilio sends our texts and handles opt-out replies. It processes your mobile number and the text's content, including outside Australia (mainly the United States).
- Google Analytics measures how the site is used (see above).
- Stripe will process card payments when paid plans start. Your card number goes straight to Stripe; we only ever keep the card's brand, last four digits and expiry date.
Because some of these providers are overseas, your information may be stored or processed outside Australia. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard similar to the Australian Privacy Principles.
Keeping it safe
All connections to the site are encrypted. Passwords are stored only as a strong one-way hash, sign-in links expire and work only once, and access to the database is limited to the systems that need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. If you ask us to close your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information unless we need to keep some of it for legal, security or accounting reasons, and then only for as long as needed.
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing support@betcheck.au. We'll reply within 30 days. You can change your mobile number and your email and text settings yourself on the Settings page.
Age
Bet Check is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Questions and complaints
Email support@betcheck.au with any question or complaint about privacy. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell members by email first.
